This is one of the most captivating independent films to emerge in recent years. (Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2020) I viewed Roadkill: A Love Story last night and was very absorbed by it for its entire length. The cinematography alone would make worth the price of admission- its evoking of simple daily living in small town America. But its simplicity has darker undertones. A mysterious woman sets up a taxidermist shop in the village. A man's car stalls on a dark highway at night and a pickup truck pulls over but one is uncertain whether the man is given help or not. A young man who is mute works at a car wash and, maybe because he isn't able to talk, becomes quite attractive to at least two very good-looking women and his earning a weekly paycheck at the car wash is an additional point in his favor. The performances of Erika Hoveland as the taxidermist Taryn and Brandon Culp as the mute Mitch in the 2 lead roles are quite riveting, as is just about everything else in this production. The dark humor joke element might raise a couple of red flags with more skittish viewers; otherwise, this film is highly and ardently recommended ! - - - - 5 out of 5 stars Mute Mitch, Wow! (Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2020) Amazing! Great story, great acting. Finally a random movie that I watched that wasn't a waste of time. Great character and story development. |
